Munch: " - Facing Woman, I sensed her mystery. I peered into an unimaginable world."

Through the years, many people have tried to interpret the  Madonna. Munch himself claimed that it focused on death, while others believe that the pseudosacred motif emphasises the mystery of birth, and still others, the purely sexual undertones. The painting is dated 1893-1894, and can also be found as an etching an a lithograph. One feels the tangible beauty in the Madonna.
